JANUARY 2015 EXOTIC FELINE RESCUE CENTER ENEWS
Mark your calendar for our SAVING THE BIG CATS CHARITY AUCTION on January 24, 2015. This year the event will take place in Plainfield, Indiana at The Palms. It will be a fun-filled afternoon of food, drink, music and bidding. Please click on the link below for more information.
This month we are highlighting Kya, a female tiger on the public tour. Kya was rescued from a Gary, Indiana tattoo parlor in May 2010 along with three other tigers. Although Kya is a small tiger, she is full of energy. She enjoys running around her enclosure, jumping up on her climbing tower and checking out anything that moves in her area. Her water tank also is one of her favorite places to play. Many visitors have witnessed Kya creating waves in her water tank. Unfortunately, many times they are standing too close and get drenched from her water escapades. Hopefully, when you visit, you will see Kya enjoying her time at the EFRC. Winter preparation is underway at the EFRC. Staff will be bringing out the heated water bowls for the cats, lowering water tanks in case the temperature goes below freezing and adding clean straw to all shelter boxes for the cats’ warmth and comfort during the cold months. They have also upped their feeding to six days a week.
Unfortunately, many people think the rescue center is closed during the winter. That is not true and winter is a great time to come visit. We are not as crowded and the cats tend to be a bit more active because it is cooler. Please plan a visit Tuesday-Sunday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

NEW ADDITIONS TO THE PUBLIC TOUR
We welcome two cats to the public tour; Cera, female lion, arriving from Pennsylvania in 2012 and Dusty, male white tiger, arriving from Angola, Indiana in 2011. They were previously housed off the public tour but now are greeting visitors from their new enclosures. Make sure to spend some time with them during your next visit.
